Privacy policy
The short version
We don’t collect your data. What you write in Tending stays on your phone. We never see it, never store it on a server, and never sell it. There’s no account and no email required to use the app. If that’s all you needed to know, you can stop reading here.
What we actually collect: the complete list
- Nothing you write in the app (journal entries, your memory space, your safety plan) ever leaves your device. We don’t receive it, see it, or store a copy anywhere.
- No account, no email, no login is required to use Tending.
- If you buy an unlock, your payment is handled entirely by Apple or Google, not by us. We receive only anonymous totals, never who bought it.
- This website (not the app) counts anonymous visits using Cloudflare Web Analytics. It uses no cookies, doesn’t track you across sites and can’t identify you. The app itself sends nothing.
- That’s the complete list. If it ever grows, this section grows with it, honestly and specifically, before that feature ships, not after.
Why we can promise this so plainly
Tending has no server for your content to travel to. It’s built this way on purpose, because the safest thing we can do with something as personal as your grief is to never receive it in the first place.
Your rights over your own data
Because everything is stored only on your device, most of your rights are things you can already do yourself, immediately, without ever contacting us:
- See it. Everything you’ve written is visible to you in the app, anytime.
- Export it. Export your journal and memory space as a plain text file through your phone’s share function, whenever you choose.
- Delete it. One tap in Settings deletes everything, immediately. There’s no server copy to also delete, and no waiting period.
If you’re outside New Zealand
Tending is built and operated from New Zealand. Wherever you use it, the same commitment applies: the app itself collects, stores and transmits no personal data, so there is very little for any privacy law to regulate. This keeps the app outside the practical reach of the EU’s GDPR and Singapore’s PDPA today, since both apply to collecting or processing personal data, and the app doesn’t do that. A note on your device’s own backups
If iCloud Backup, Google Backup or a similar feature is on, your phone may include Tending’s data in that backup, as it does for most apps. That’s controlled by your device settings, not by us. To keep Tending’s data out of your backups, check your phone’s backup settings.
If there’s ever a security incident
Because your journal and memory space never leave your device, a breach of that content at our end isn’t possible, since we never hold it. If any data we hold in future is ever affected, we’ll notify affected users and the relevant authorities as the law requires.
Who can use Tending
Tending is intended for people 16 and older. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone younger, and we collect very little from anyone at all.
